Four Houses battled it out in the SCIS Inter House English Elo-

cution Competition, 2015-16 held on 6th May, 2015. With the

introduction of Class XI, the categories of competition were in-

creased from two to three. Class VI and VII formed the first

category; VIII and IX, the second; X and XI, the third.

It was a power packed performance with well chosen poems

from the theme of Freedom and Empowerment. With Class X

but explored speeches, letters and extracts from short stories

as well.

With Innovator House finally winning the competition and Ra-

jit Banerjee from Innovator House being declared the Best

Speaker, one can only say like ABBA ‘The Winner takes it All’.

The birthday of Tagore is celebrated religiously

every year in SCIS. This year it was different.

The students performed before an open audi-

ence in the corridors of the school a la

Shantiniketan. Attired in traditional costumes,

they danced to the tune of Rabindra Sangeet

down the corridors much to the delight of the

audience.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid adieu to

Ms. Seethalakshmi and Ms.Romi, teachers

from the Secondary Section. Though it is

hard to imagine SCIS without them, we

celebrate with them as they embark upon

a new phase in their lives .

The workshop involved all parents of Foundation and Preparatory

classes. The workshop was conducted to bring about awareness

amongst the parents and to sensitize them to help their children

adapt and accept each other’s multicultural backgrounds. Sejal

Arora, pre-primary teacher, spoke about the multicultural differ-

ences and how sad it is for a child to know that he is not accepted by

his peer group, leading to aggression, stress, anxiety and an increas-

ing sense of alienation. Monita Basu and Chandrima Ghosal( special

educators and counselors) touched briefly about cognitive and social

development and means and ways to stop such situations from tak-

ing place.

The outcome of this workshop proved to be very positive. Parents de-

manded for more workshops like this every month. They became

more sensitive towards the international children and changed their

views after attending this workshop. Written feedbacks were given by

each parent present in the workshop.

"Kids for Tigers" Teachers’ Meet

On 5 th May 2015 ,two teachers ,Ms. Soumita Roy & Ms. Luna Roy, attended a Teachers’ Meet -Kids for

coastlines of India".

SCIS tested its readiness when fresh tremors were felt in the city dur-

ing the 7th lesson on Tuesday, 12th of May 2015.Emergency Evacuation

Plan was executed as soon as the tremors were felt. Students gathered on

the playground without panicking.

SCIS has always helped in creating awareness in students regarding school

safety. Concentrated efforts are taken to engage students in activities which

enhance their understanding of disasters and relevant aspects. Mock Evacua-

tion Drill (pre-announced and unannounced) , posters and thematic skits during

assembly helped the children to cope with the disaster in a positive manner.

The devastating effects of major earthquakes that have struck Nepal has affected many lives and de-

stroyed countless homes across the country. We know the road to recovery will be a long one and our

hearts are with those affected by this unimaginable tragedy.

The School swung into action and collected items which were of immediate requirement ,such as ,first

aids, bottled water and dry food items which could be transported to the affected areas. The Manage-

ment of SCIS contributed a sum of twenty-five thousand rupees for this noble cause.

We thank the Nepal Consulate for the cooperation.
