I have attended this school since I was a Freshman in high school. Overall I have found it to have a good environment, where teachers seem to care about their students and kids can find connections to the people and sports around them. However, academic wise this school has much room for improvement. It has always been lacking in quality due to low-funding and generalized lack of emphasis, but since the COVID pandemic it has sunk even further. Now most students are able to pass classes by simply attending, doing work is almost optional. In addition, the focus of the school seems to be more on the extracurriculars such as sports than of the arts, which is detrimental to the culture of the school and the roundness of the knowledge gained at it.

For a low income community, this school has it quite impressive. However I feel there is a lack of appreciation for the arts. There is also a divide between the students who are promising or likely to go to college and those that are not. The students who are considered not likely to go to college are not informed of college opportunities. The school is also far too small for the number of enrolled students and many "temporary" portables are no longer temporary. The community of this school is surprisingly patriotic, the students and teachers care about the successes of each other and take a lot of pride in being from othello and a student at OHS.

Even though I didn’t rate a lot of five stars I had a very good high school career and wouldn’t change it. I made life long friends and life long memories and have become very close with a few teachers.
